Q1: Let’s start with the common question, if you can kindly introduce yourself.
I’m a digital artist, self taught, from Brazil, focused in dark and emotional art. I’m 22 years old and started this career in 2008 with only 19.

Q2: How did you get into the field of your work?
It’s hard to explain…When I look back I find myself as a child, cutting out magazines and everything I could to create stories. I used to create handmade collages for fun, never thought it could be done digitally. Many years later, still lost in my career, could have used a better computer and installed a corel photo paint 9, given by a friend. Everything started as a hobby and then getting into something more serious. Had my first photoshop 3 years later and the rest you already know.

Q3: Do you have any current favourite artists, comic artists, photographers who may have influenced you to become the artist that you are?
I had and have favorite artists, but currently I’m looking for some new ones, unknown. I’m trying to improve my art and style and unknown artists are not afraid to take risks, new ideas, they don’t care. They are my inspiration now, because I’m still afraid to take risks. However, I can cite some names like Victoria Frances, Dan dos Santos, Michaelo, Eugenio Recuenco, Tim Walker and so forth.

Q4: What are the main tools of your trade?
Photoshop CS5, Intuos 4 Large, Canon 550D.

Q5: How was it for you to learn the process of that? Did you teach yourself, take classes or learn from other existing artist’s tutorial?
I started by reading some tutorials. As I said above I’m self taught, was essential to me watch videos and read. Actually digital art is an endless process, you always have something to improve and learn. Nowadays I create my own tutorials but it doesn’t mean I’m a flawless artist. I have much to learn.

Q6: Do you think its possible for you to describe the process of your art style, what are the dos and don’ts, the important aspects you set yourself to achieve your style of design?
My art is known and characterized by the use of some elements and concept. Things like sadness, movement and emotion is quite common. Sometimes I try to make something quite colorful to make a contrast with the sadness. This is a dark fantasy world most of the time, your first feeling when seeing my artworks is a good feeling but when you pay attention you get sad with the main character and go deeper ’till you feel yourself inside the story and be a part of it. I kind of bring sadness to the fairy tale world.

Q7: What are the biggest struggles you encounter as an artist?
Fight for my rights as artist, protect my art. There are many thieves around.

Q8: Do you have any other future plans that don’t involve creative art?
Photography. I wish I had more experience in this area. I’m slowly buying some equipments however it’s still hard to me. Lighting, Shadows, Hard, Soft. Anyway I plan to be able to create my own resources and open my own photography studio.

Q9: Do you have any personal mottos, quotes or existing quotes that motivates you to do what you love doing? Can you share it with us or provide words of wisdom from your experiences for those who look up to you?
“Every person is born with talent but it gets invisible ’till you show some effort to discover it” In my opinion, God gives you a talent, in a specific area that must be developed through your life. Nothing comes easy, it’s our duty to discover ourselves and our mission. I’m trying to discover mine.

Q10: What do you think the future will hold for all artists from all backgrounds from now?
All original artist has a reserved place in future. It’s getting hard to find a place in digital field, every idea is already common and cliche. however talent is something no technology or degree can hide. Art is more than an educational background.

First of all I want to thank everyone who is helping me to spread it out. I'm receiving many emails about it, magazines, interviews, newspapers and it's very nice to know a great public is supporting me. Copyright lawyers are contacting me, from new york,brazil, everywhere and we are discussing what can be done about it. I'm glad to see lawyers showing interested about it, even though I'm quite afraid and out of the "copyright situation". Who is reading everything since the beggining know what I'm talking about. And, the going situation is how the company is dealing with it. They didn't even contact me.

Yesterday, after the well known boingboing website and dearauthor.com post an article about the rip off, Harper Collins removed the covers from amazon, goodreads and the publisher's website. They behave like if nothing had happened. Someone said that I should contact the author but this morning I had a great disappointment when reading her blog post.

She says: "Bewitching cover is a work-in-progress"

The company wasted her precious time to copy my artwork, publish it anywhere and now say it's a work-in-process. - copy-in-process maybe.

Harper Collins cowardly removed the old cover and right now is creating a totaly new cover to Bewitching. - Very smart.

and she says more:
Similarities do happen. Recently, two children's novels were published with virtually identical covers.
Two friends of mine had novels in the same season with stock photos which were, if not identical, at least of the same model in the same photo shoot.

Does she knows or is she pretending?
4 months ago HC contacted me about the same cover. Offered me 4,000 to licence City of Angels to Bewitching. The art director already knew it was already sold to LK RIGEL. Actually it's obvious she contacted because she loved LK Rigel book cover and wanted the same.

The Art director asked the nationality and book section of LK RIGEL. she tried to convince me that there weren't any problem in creating 2 covers with the same art.

I refused it.

and now the author says it was just a STOCK PROBLEM? a coincidence?
Dear Alex Flinn, read what happened before write a nonsense blog post about that.

Similarities do not happen if someone from HC contacted me about the same art and same book months ago! It's not a coincidence at all.

and the post finish with one-comment-only in her blog:

"You are the classy one. It would be so easy for a big corporation like Harper Collins to figure an unknown like me and a foreign artist like Nathalia Suellen can be ignored and just go on with the beautiful cover."

Easy to a big company piss off a unknown foreign artist. Forget her and go on with the cover.

Disdained - Kill My Only Enemy

Disdained is one of the hottest fresh bands in the female fronted melodic metal genre. Since the start-up in 2005 the band has evolved and the music has made tremendous leaps forward. Well laid sceneries together with fire eater performances by the female singer contribute to a solid live act which has proven to be a success at the Nordic music festivals.

In 2008 Disdained opened up for Mustasch (Swedish Grammy winner) at Vadstuck festivat. During 2010 the band performed at Sweden rock festival,receiving great credit and recognition from the audience, stood proud as the Stockholm winner, as well as awarded for "best guitarists" at the Stockholm/Sweden/Nordic final in the world's biggest music competition, Emergenza! Disdained is currently in the process of making their debutalbum "Kill my only enemy" which will hit the markets worldwide during 2011.

My Space with over 140.000 visitors since 2008 and receiving attention from record labels and music magazines has meant a lot to boost gigs, development and confidence. Niklas and Tomas have previously released four studio albums with the power metal band Insania (Stockholm), a band that among other things played at Sweden Rock festival, been a supporting act to Saxon and during 2007 went on an extensive tour in Europe with the Finnish band Ensiferum.

Therése has previously been an theatre actress and has great experiences with several well known Swedish musicians. Johan has played drums in various constellations mainly in south-eastern parts of Sweden with members from Satanic Surfers and others. guitar player Johan Hartman has been aroundfor a long time and have played in too many band to mention.

Final version of "Above" to Scholastic (USA). The american publisher is known as the only owner of exclusive United States' publishing rights to the Harry Potter book series. We had around 10 versions of this book and finally after 2 months working together we could find the right model. I'm very glad with the final result. Enjoy the book!

Tell us about you:

I’ve been working with digital art since 2008, self-taught. The year when I could found out my passion for the dark style and photography. Since then I’ve been focused on improve my style and skills, always with the help of some clients which have allowed me to test myself in each artwork done.What started as a hobbie suddenly took a more serious way. After some experiences, practice and too much effort, I decided to open my own business, Lady Symphonia Digital Art. Currently, my gallery portraits a sad, strange and tragic world, with the help of a magic and enchanting environment and for many times, macabre and depressive. I’ve been always trying to share my particular feminine vision and also, the most important of all, touch the deepest feelings of my public.

What are the most important things to you about being a dark artist?

Is it the pay, feelings of self-worth, etc.?In my point of view, the dark artist has an exclusive and rich possibility of expressing emotions, deeper than other styles. It’s a mixed of fear and in a certain way, a sort of attraction. Every human being has the “unknown” essence and passion and our duty is bring it up.

What efforts have you made at “networking” to advance your career?

First of all, see other professionals in your field, try to learn with them. Use online communities to spread our work and promote it. Practice and don’t be limited at rules, empty techniques and ideas. We have to support what we have in mind and even for sometimes ignore the public opinion. Your artwork is the mirror of your soul, if they don’t like your art, they probably won’t like you.

Where do you get inspirations from?

From everywhere: music, movies and literature.

Do you promote/ sell/ showcase your work? If so, how?

Yes, art and service. I promote my artwork through my site and social networks.

Where do you see your profession going in the next five to ten years?

If God’s willing, with a larger photographic knowledge and experience which will certainly help me to improve my artwork and style. I intend to create my artworks with totally exclusive resources (or a great part of them). Once I get it, I’ll be able to share my ideas easier.

Define the word dark art:

The most intense expression of sadness, the mirror of the artist’s soul and the mouth of its public.

Who do you consider to be your professional role model? Why do you consider this person to be so special? Honestly?

I really don’t have a choice. We’re unique. But the only one who I think is special enough to adopting his behavior is God. We are too weak to be adored or to be a sort of role model.

Please explain the worst work experience you had in the past five years?

Most of them with art thief or ideas being copied.

What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting our lifestyle?

For those who use it in a good way, you can do ANYTHING with it. You have a really large information to learn and improve. Internet is a perfect communication tool. And with communication we can do all.

Where do you see the industry going?

The industry objective is to make all possible. To facilitate our paper as a creator.

What are you doing to stay on top of these changes and how do you keep your work fresh?

I know I have to conciliate the industry and its changes with my ideas and objectives. However I can’t abandon my style. The “secret” to keep your work fresh is to be original, to improve. Sometimes follow a trend or be too worried with what people have done is to lose yourself, your art identify. And if you lose yourself, you lose all.

Uhn, I don’t read magazines. But I appreciate Advanced Photoshop and Gothic Beauty or any other who give opportunities for artists.

In what kind of a work environment do you do your best work?

Collaboration with MJ Ranum to Mccann Erickson

This december I have had some problems with comissioned artworks and requests. One of them came from Mccann Erickson which asked me If I could create an advertisment for a bullet proof glass. The main idea was to make the Grim Reaper stucked on the glass with his scythe broken. My first thought was deny the request once it would be almost impossible. I decided to go crazy and send an email to MJ Ranum (who I'm big fan since he is one of the best resources providers around the internet.) He accepted with a certain unsure If it was really possible, and what should have been totaly "solved" now was starting getting really hard. He tried around 2 or 3 days taking several shoots and after 1 week sent me the pictures through email and I'm so deadly happy and grateful for such great photos. Honestly, I still don't know If they will accept or deny the artwork after I work digitally on it, but things like that must be remembered. Thanks Ranum.

What Has Inspired Me? - Soundtracks

Since I started in digital art, I have created a personal collection of instrumental movie songs, (or soundtracks) here, in my computer. Today I decided to share some with you. As you already know, I'm supposed to like sad, dramatic songs. You're right. If you are happy babe, better you go out.
Whatever, let's get started with the list. Not in most liked order.

1. Lux Aeterna - ClintMansell (Requiem of a Dream)
2. All of them - Hans Zimmer (King Arthur)
3. July 27th - Edward Shearmur (July 24th)
4. End Credits - James Newton Howard (The Village)
5. The Healing - James Newton Howard (Lady in the Water)

I have many others, but I like that ones so much. Choosing just 5 this time, they kinda fits with the same theme. They are similar in some way. Clint Mansell is awesome, a bit strong in his style, even in "the fountain" it has something like lorenna mckennitt (is it new age?), something with violins and voices from deep...whatever.What I really like in James Newton is the way he turns the songs dark and sweet in seconds. I prefer him, he uses piano and I think, well, in some songs Mansell gets crazy with the violin and violins (for me) need to keep the same dark tone, sad...and slow. That's why I like Lux Aeterna, the songs is strong and sad at the same time. Hans Zimmer, i don't know his style, actually he follows the movie, so...depends on the movie to know I like it, or not. What am I talking about? everybody is amazing, they "speak" with "sounds". Bellow I found a video with the best of James Newton with M. Night Shyamalan (another crazy director I like in my tim burton's list), if you have time, go there and listen to it, i think it worth...sometimes you just need to let the things around take you to another world. It's quite relaxing.

The first of my new serie called "the circle of life",
this time using a stock i just loved and i was planning to use it months and months ago.The beautiful woman above is Elandria, she is a stock provider and has an inspiring gallery! The next of the serie will be probably related with death/life, destiny,lucky,vanity etc...im exciting to know what i will do. Because to be honest i have no idea at all. I'm experimenting the taste of new horizons, new styles, new things. How could I know if it will work if i don't try it? right?

well, blog is for news...this is my last new!

The title is a joke, but the thing is serious. I just received by mail a contract with Penguin Group (NYC). The contract is already signed and was sent to them again. To make the story shorter,
I started doing an art not done yet. The art has 2 characters, a thing never done in all my life ('cause 2 characters is too hard and I prefer avoid that kind of work). The art is getting really good and almost approved, it need some modifications, after done I will show you.

i blurred my adress and theirs e-mail for safe...
and try dont laugh of my strange hand. XD

SToday I just received one of my cuttest birthday gifts from a internet friend of mine...His name is Danilo and I just loved his box...! He lives far away but always support my work, give opinions and is a !@!#! amazing friend...(he actually sent 2x more than the chocolates in this pic, but some of them I ate and my family helped me...)

And bellow the unknown duck! and my new lace gloves!!! fuc!@!#ing amazing!!!
and a chocolate with "happy birthday" in my language (portuguese)...this chocolate is one of the best ever!!! and I don't have it in my city so...i dont know where to buy...!!!Not included on pics above, the dvd he sent me of my wife and kids!!!!!!

crazy.
you know, this last Saturday was my 21th birthday, i had no idea what people was plaining for me this year. I woke up crazy when i just noticed that was my birthday. But people here was rude with me and they pretended don't remember my birthday. (you know, it always happen and i hate it). Well, I use to wake up 9 at morning, but i was so excited that i couldn't sleep anymore. I think i got up 6 or 7 when I just saw my father asking, what the hell? why are you out of bad?? (here is where i looks like a child!). I saw the time running out, and I couldn't wait people wish me happy birthday, i just went to my course...and left the things "flow". My first happy birthday to you was there, my professor almost killed me (im too shy!), he started making infinite questions about me and my life. But to be honest, I had a lot of fun. 3h more, I left the course and I went to my house. I opened the door, (the stupid new key doens't help and doesn't works good!...) and when i got in, "omg, my father was there holding on a big cake! with all my crazy family and friends together" Was fantastic...! (just to remember, every little thing was purple! starting from my t-shirt). And I was starving...was a really fattering day, with fattering food...and all a good birthday need to have, candies, cake, pizza! (i love it)...etc. To make the story shorter, My grandma's birthday is in the same day of mine. So, after my party I went to her house. (I particularly don't like to give "happy birthday" in my birthday! but anyway haha!) I went there and we had another cake with candles again! another party, another part of my family there. (i was tired...really) I just remembered I felt asleep in my cousin's bed...(and the night ended this way). I was dead.

Thanks everybody who sent me wishes, happy birthdays, gifts as well as poems, art dedications...man i don't have to complain about nothing. You rock my friends...just that!

Yeah, I tried my best...
Inner Conflict was my entry for Wacom Contest and of course this time I thought about a good concept
for the entry...that could be a little different of others entries.
Everybory doing devil x God...and I'm tired of that concept..
So, my idea was back to our origin and remember the beggining of everything...
When God said "and now you are knowing good and evil"
If God never said that we never would know whats is "good and evil".

I really don't know why I do many accounts, but this new account is not about art,
is about me...like I said "my personal account". I never was good with photography, never!
I really love take pictures about all, but i never think about "photography" as a professional thing, but as a hobby...

Yeah, like the title...this is my first blog, I never had one before! The idea is good, i had a lot fun doing this..almost 1 week builting this layout...photoshop and codes, codes and photoshop, i'm really tired, but I think it worth.

Many many friends have been asking me if its a website, need answer it, "no it isn't my website"
it's a blog..and will be always a blog. I feel sorry for theses months, my official website is tooking so long,
but it's almost almost there! really...and the site is awesome (can u see how humble am I?) lol!
yeah, but I'm proud of the result...need say thanks a lot for my friend Guilherme, He is helping me to make my life easier!
